Orfeo is reviewed by Jeff Alford for About.com, February 17, 2014.
Richard Powers has been writing since the late 1980s and is criminally underrated: he is a master of real-life science fiction and responsible for some of the most ambitious and erudite novels of contemporary literature.
…
Orfeo reads like music; Powers has a staggering command of tone and composition. … motifs emerge and return later in the novel, developed and modulated into a different key. Impressively theoretical but remaining nearly futuristic in its contemporaneity, Orfeo is at once timely and classic. Rarely do books sing this beautifully.
