VERDICT Powers skillfully weaves together and makes understandable two fields that get pretty far up their own asses in terms of complex, theoretical impracticality. For a book with such an upsetting premise—on so many levels—this is a soothing, evocative read in which characters inhabit intellects and ideas as much as they do the earth. It’s a wild, imaginative read for dudes looking to eclipse car chases/explosions/WWII history.
